Dr. Kazuyoshi Baba graduated from Tokyo Medical and Dental University in 1986 and is currently a chair and professor of the department of prosthodontics at Showa University. Dr. Baba has published more than 80 papers in peer-reviewed journals with a total impact factor of approximately 100. His lab members received more than 20 awards from national and international scientific societies.
Impact of Advancement of Digital Dentistry on Prosthetic Treatment Workflow
A significant change taking place this century is the introduction of digital technology into dental practice, which is called “Digital Dentistry”. For example, CAD/CAM-based fabrication of the restorations and software-based 3D implant placement planning, are now indispensable for prosthetic treatments. Recently the direct oral scanning technology has expanded the popularity in the market because the digital impression decisively simplified the clinical workflow by making it easier and visible for both patients and dentists. The lecture will cover the latest advancements of digital dentistry as well as related newly developed dental materials and discuss their merits and impact on prosthetic dentistry.

Strategies for Management of Sleep Bruxism - Clinical Implication of Basic Findings
Sleep bruxism (SB) is defined as “an oral parafunction characterized by grinding or clenching of the teeth during sleep”. SB may deteriorate prognoses after dental treatments by causing abnormal tooth attrition and fracture of dental restorations and tooth structures. It’s well established that SB is associated with arousal fluctuation during sleep, which occur in normal otherwise healthy population as well as in patients with sleep disorders. Therefore, interactions among SB, sleep, and sleep disorders need to be understood for logical managements of SB. The lecture will cover physiological and genetic aspects of SB and discuss logical management strategies for SB.
