Minimally Invasive Procedures – Biological Aspects
The concept of Minimal Intervention (MI) in Dentistry has become more wide spread and accepted due to increased understanding of the value of natural tooth structure. Demineralized, non-cavitated enamel and dentin can be “healed” using MI approaches. Even with cavitated lesions treatment plans can switch from surgical approach to treatment of caries in a minimally invasive way. The choice of materials and procedures depends on multiple factors, which are influenced by the severity of the lesions.

Learning Objectives :
  1. Introduce the principles of Minimally Invasive Dentistry (MID)
  2. Describe the benefits of MID through less intervention and maximal results
  3. Describe/ demonstrate MID procedures
Early Diagnosis of Caries Disease: It Makes a Difference
Modern approach in everyday clinical practice is moving the focus away from the usual ‘surgical’ restoration of damaged and missing hard dental tissues.  Different procedures and materials have become available for prevention and nonsurgical treatment of dental caries as well as diagnostic tools for early recognition of carious lesions. The first step is early identification and assessment of caries risk factors by using caries risk assessment. The second step is to diagnose the first signs of demineralisation of hard dental tissues in order to avoid surgical treatment.

Learning Objectives :
  1. Introduce the principles of diagnostic of caries
  2. Describe the current state of knowledge about caries diagnosis/detection
  3. Describe diagnostic procedures
